Wednesday 16 June 2021 – ROYAL ASCOT DAY 2

Good Morning, on this scorching hot, beautiful summer’s day, just how we like it for Royal Ascot.

Well, yesterday was good wasn’t it, not just content with tipping the 40/1 winner of the Derby last time we played, RESHOUN landed for us at 66/1 to make the day handsomely profitable, place money on a few others as well confirmed the day was not far off being another monster.

As ever if you had a good day, I will rattle the tin, the metrics show more eyes on the blog now than ever before from all over the globe, hence if you are successful, all contributions welcome.

Royal Ascot – Day 2

14:30 – Day 2, kicks off with the Queen Mary stakes, a race for fillies only, Wesley Ward is hot on the hopes of his American runner, Twilight Gleaming saying she may be his best 5f sprinter to date at the prices however, we will take Ward on.

The Andrew Balding, filly, Nymphadora looked all the rage at York when landing and should improve for the better ground, the same can be said of Choux, who looked fast enough when landing the mother of all gambles on debut, if he improves for better ground today, he could get in again at a decent price. Finally, riding high with Ian Williams (trainer of Reshoun) we will back Desert Dreamer, who at Newmarket over 5f earlier in the season posted a blistering time.

Desert Dreamer 11/1 1.5 point each way

Nymphadora 12/1 1 point each way

Choux 28/1 1 point each way

15:05 – Arturo Toscanini stands out for AP O’Brien, his figures when winning at the Curragh, carrying 5lb heavier make him a selection, the draw is not kind, hence the price but he has the pace to overcome the draw if ridden a tad more prominently, we will then turn to his son and back Benaud.

Arturo Toscanini 12/1 1 point each way

Beanud 20/1 0.5 point each way

15:40 – The Duke of Cambridge stakes is always one of the highlights of the week, Lady Bowthorpe, swerved Palace Pier yesterday for this and sits atop of the market, her hold up style will suit this race to perfection and it would be no surprise for her to get that deserved win. However, at Epsom on Derby Day, Parent’s Prayer was given a peach of a ride for Archie Watson and with Hollie Doyle jocked up today she has every chance today and will be a selection again. Agincourt ran credibly when second at Goodwood last time out carrying heavier and is proven on the surface.

PARENT’S PRAYER 9/1 2 point each way

AGINCOURT 14/1 1 point each way

16:20 – As Tina said, what’s Love got to do with it? Well, after last years successes perhaps a great deal in the Prince of Wales Stakes, odds on at the time of writing, if she runs to her best, she wins and handsomely today, Armory however has shown plenty and if their is a chink, expect O’Brien to still come away with the spoils.

No bet.

17:00 – The Royal Hunt cup is a mad spectacle, a zillion horses line up and give it all for a mile, you have to have lady luck with you in order to succeed in this race, however this race has the right favourite, Astro King, down in the weights, having run well at Thirsk in defeat last time out, Sir Michael Stoute might just have tuned up the most likely winner here. Maydanny for Mark Johnston is also a selection as is Teston at a huge price, both the latter selections will benefit from a positive front running ride.

Astro King 11/2 2 point each way

Brunch 17/2 2 point each way

Teston 100/1 0.5 point each way

17:35 – Chipotle proven over course and distance and on the surface, is a big price at 25s and will be a play (see below), we will also back Flaming Rib dropping down in trip at an equally juicy price, towards the top of the market Dig Two looks the best of the market leaders, with the market being skewed somewhat once more by a hot Wesley Ward runner. Finally, in George Boughey we trust and we will back his runner, Superior Force.

Chipotle 25/1 1.5 point each way

Flaming Rib 18/1 1 point each way

Superior Force 33/1 0.5 point each way

Dig Two 15/2 2 point each way (all the above 4 places)

18:10 – Mostly for Dettori and the Gosden’s (not just John anymore) is a selection towards the top of the market, performing well over 7f on soft at the start of her career, you feel she has been tucked away here with her going over a longer trip in recent starts. Ffion however is our main selection with her down in the weights, having performed well on Heavy ground at Haydock, if she improves for the surface the market will have got this filly all wrong.

Ffion 7/1 2.5 point each way

Mostly 11/2 2 point each way

Good luck and thank you for your donations in advance.
