Saturday 2 July 2022 – Coral Eclipse.

Good morning, Coral Eclipse day, the jewel in Sandown’s flat racing crown, we have in the line-up Mishriff, winner of the most valuable race on the planet (well financially…), the Irish Guineas winner, Native Trail, Bay Bridge who looked phenomenal in the Brigadier Gerard, throw in the winner of the French Derby, Vadeni, in short its a bloody cracker.

As to today, we will focus on Sandown.

Sandown

14:25 – Mostawaa is a massive price and maybe the price will be seen to ring true come around about half-past two, but, as I review the race, if you forgive the run at York and look at the runs at Hamilton and Ascot, it would be at least half the current asking price.

Very well weighted, with Tyler Heard knocking off a further three pounds, if a lack of weight is the answer, a run beyond the odds could be expected.

15:00 – Oscula for Boughey and Buick, is again priced above what I expected, on my tissue I had it around 4s/5s. Boughey and Buick when together have a 30% strike rate and with the market made up by the favourite, who has a fantastic chance, we are getting better odds than anticipated.

Boughey is operating at above a 20% strike-rate this season and we can expect a front-running performance, drawn alongside Fast Attack, who was named appropriately, let’s hope Buick gets the fractions right up-front.

Oscula 8/1 1.5pt ew

15:35 – I eulogised enough at the opening of this post about the Coral Eclipse, however, the one horse I did not mention is our selection, it is hard not to be drawn in by the French raider, Native Trail with the 3y/o weight allowance would be the best horse in the field but we saw how that played out in the 2000 Guineas.

The selection however is the Haggis horse, Alenquer who ran a cracker at the Curragh and set stand-out fractions, following on from beating Lord North, who reprises today, at the All-Weather Championship over the Easter break.

Another horse, who likes to get out, set the fractions from the front and may just be hard to reel in. Enjoy all the same, let’s hope it does not disappoint.

Alenquer 15/2 1.5pt ew

17:20 – Shamlaan down in class and if able to replicate the Goodwood form as shown in April would be far shorter, a horse who wants it no worse than Good, it should get the ground today, I will want Doyle up with the pace early on as latecomers struggle on the ground, ideally he attaches himself nicely behind King of Stars who will set the pace and be in the mix come the finish.

Shamlaan 11/2 2pt ew
