A slight loss yesterday, giving a bit back, let’s hope we end the meet in profit and on a positive today (we are currently around 6pts up for the meeting)
York
13:50 – Bashikrova for Haggis and Marquand (we go again despite not succeeding yesterday with the duo) will be our opening selection on Saturday. Mighty Ulysses has the likely profile of the winner but any chinks in the armour may play into our hands. The run at Epsom in June was particularly promising, hence the disappointment at Ascot last time out when backed into joint-
A 4y/o competing with the younger horses means more weight but the amount is less than that run at Epsom, those who have stuck with the horse will look back on.
The withdrawal of Cadillac means only 2 places, hence a smaller stake than would be normally suggested.
Bashkirova 11/1 0.75pt ew
14:25 – Inverness for Hills and Shoemark looks overpriced, plenty to like about Wild Crusade for Godolphin but at a bigger price, we will back Inverness, the Goodwood third, behind Secret State who ran a PB this week in defeat to Deauville Legend is a solid piece of form.
Anticipate the horse popping out, being switched up and held up throughout, if settled and presented well at the death, we should be in the frame at least.
Inverness 16/1 1pt ew
15:35 – We will back a couple in this handicap extravaganza of ‘pin-work’, excuse the slightly shorter write-ups.
Fancy Man – Set speed figures at Goodwood that would trouble these if can race to that standard despite down in class and carrying more weight, this is all factored into the 50/1 price but on my tissue you could have had the horse more than half the price hence is a play.
50/1 0.75pt ew
Trawlerman is our main play for Godolphin and Gosden/Dettori, impressive speed figures of note when successful last time out and the team have a 33% strike rate at the course. It seems on the eye, Frankie is better able to handle the finishes of these longer races, hence let’s hope we see him leaping off just before 16:00 today.
Trawlerman 14/1 1pt ew
16:10 – Spangled Mac has had a heck of season, running up a 4 timer, just missing out at Ascot on the 5, a stone less than when last seen out and the booking of Buick is significant (a winning ride earlier in the season at Yarmouth over distance).
Lethal Levi, another horse who was red hot a few weeks back, did the business twice at HQ and was backed into odds-on at Goodwood before running no race at all. The price is big today and hence we will get on.
Spangled Mac 9/1 1pt ew
Lethal Levi 14/1 1pt ew
