Racing has been a tad drab of late but we have two value plays which are worth a look but the staking reflects their chances. York next week and the Nunthrope ensures a better quality of racing as we look ahead.

We have backed Star of Lady M on a number of occasions this season, including her second at Glorious Goodwood last month, that run did little to damper my enthusiasm for the horse, who David O’Mera has handled well this season. A step up to class 1 today may well prove prohibitive but that is factored in the price.

Enigmatic is down in the weights and is carrying nigh on a stone less than when last seen placing at Pontefract. The speed figure was noticeable in defeat and the booking of James Doyle to ride is significant.
