Wednesday 15 June 2022 – ROYAL ASCOT DAY 2

A fine opening day yesterday, Baaeed may really just be that special, winning without exerting a muscle in the opener, Bradsell ensured we had a winner on the board for the day and a lack of luck in running for Caddilac ensured he could only finish second.

The double paid ew (around 2/1) with the horses finishing third and second respectively.

Onto today:

14:30 – The Queen Mary kicks the meeting off with a whole field of unexposed 2 year olds. KATEY KONTENT is the bet for Clive Cox with Adam Kirby on board. The trainer has a 23% strike-rate with last time out winners and the booking of Adam is a further positive, percentage play. Our selection is drawn from stall 6, which has little to no bias in a race of this type and I would expect to see Kirby tuck behind leaders such as Primrose Ridge and Yahsat who will set the early fractions.

KATEY KONTENT 10/1 1pt ew

15:05 – Appleby and Buick team up once again with Nahanni for Godolphin, impressive over 1.2mil and 1.4mil when carrying nigh on half a stone more than today, the step up in trip should suit this 3 year old from Frankel.

The Derby simply was not for him, whether it was fireworks from the stands or merely not his day, expect a much better performance today, should he not be spooked from the outset.

Nahanni 4/1 3pt ew

15:40 – A non betting race, from a singles perspective, but one to watch just how good, Bay Bridge may be, stupendous in the Brigadier Gerrard, many of spoken about him being the banker of the week (relative to price, around evens, as opposed to Baaeed 1/8)

16:20 – Bashkirova is the selection nigh on identical from my ratings perspective with Saffron Beach, when that happens, you should always take the bigger price, carrying less weight when last seen, victorious at Epsom on the Derby weekend. A big run is expected today.

Haggas has a nigh on 15% strike rate at the Course and Distance and we know he thinks very highly of this mare, with Tom Marquand on board, they hope to add another winner to their 23% strike rate when paired together.

Bashkirova 3/1 4pt ew

17:00 – The Royal Hunt Cup, simply, a sight to behold, as thirty plus runners hurtle down the straight mile. We will back a few in this, forgive the slightly shorter write-ups.

Rebel Territory is going for the hat-trick, more than looking the part when last seen at Sandown and Newmarket before that, Jim Crowley is on board and the horse looks somewhat forgotten by the market, as the speed-figures in Sandown on my watch are better than everything else in the field, when carrying 6lbs higher than today.

Totally Charming is a second selection in the race for Boughey and Dettori, plenty to like, expect Dettori to hold up at the back of the field and be presented within the final half furlong.

In the same race at Epsom, where Totally Charming was successful, Excel Power was a bit of a hardluck story in running, 50/1 does not really reflect his ability and he is our final selection.

Rebel Territory 14/1 2pt ew

Totally Charming 9/1 2pt ew

Excel Power 50/1 1pt ew

17:35 – Another, big field, another expert pin-drop, we hope! Lady M is our primary selection in this race, victorious in 3 out of her 4 starts, it pays to set the pace in this race and we can expect Star of Lady M to be at the front.

Our second selection is Rocket Rodney who is drawn from stall 21 and will get ready access to the rail, a front running type, who may just get out and not be for catching, his win at Goodwood when last seen was notable and the price is far too attractive to pass by.

Star of Lady M 25/1 2pt ew

Rockey Rodney 10/1 1pt ew

18:10 – In the final race of the day, State Occasion for Beckett and Ryan stands out, down in weight today to 8-12 a weight which will suit the horse, having performed well as such last season when placing in some decent races, we would hope for one better today and take the last.

Ffion is our second and final selection of the day, with Derby winner Richard Kingscote on board, who is red-hot at present, when paired with trainer, David Loughane they have around a 20% strike-rate.

State Occasion 11/1 2pt ew

Ffion 14/1 1.5pt ew

Double: Nahanni, Bashkirova 19/1 3pt ew

Treble: Nahanni, Bay Bridge Bashkirova, 37/1 2pt ew
