Saturday 9 April 2022 – The Grand National

The nation’s race, the one everyone wants to win, asks you about and which truly stops the country, good luck today.

We gave a bit back yesterday but a few placed efforts at big prices ensured it was not a total write off..

Onto today, we will preview the National the first and then the other selections are below.

Aintree

THE GRAND NATIONAL – 17:15

A race that has undoubtedly changed, perhaps is easier to win, maybe requires a better profile of horse, as classier types take their chances in the modern era, but, for all of that, it is still the one, the race every jockey wishes to win and every punter wants to land. A spectacle like no other.

Eclair Surf for the Lavelle yard, snuck in earlier this week to much fanfare and their is plenty to like, proven at the trip, very generously handicapped and chasing home the winner of last week’s Scottish National when last seen in the Eider. The price reflects all of the above but will be a selection.

Mighty Thunder is worth a swing at a big price as is Fortescue.

Longhouse Poet is a further strong fancy towards the top of the market, the Irish support could seem him challenging for favourite come the off.

Longhouse Poet 14/1 2.5pt ew

Eclair Surf 14/1 1.5pt ew

Mighty Thunder 40/1 1pt ew

Fortescue 25/1 1pt ew

UPDATE 10:54 – Escaria Ten 14/1 2 pt ew

13:45 – Serious Charges 8/1 1pt ew

14:25 – Stage Star 10/1 1pt ew & North Lodge 13/2 2pt ew

15:00 – Third Time Lucki 5/1 2pt ew

15:35 – Flooring Porter vs Thyme Hill the rematch, one to watch but I would favour the champion.

16:15 – Killer Kane 10/1 2pt ew & Sam Brown 25/1 1pt ew

Good Luck today.

Nothing else across the cards of interest, small fields in Newcastle where they are jumping and no form in the bank yet for the Flat season over at Thirsk
