Not a day to write home about, save as for WINTER POWER drifting out to 5/1 and doing exactly what we said she would, get out, get out very fast and then just keep going, the favourite looked weak from a form perspective and was het up at the start. A nice bet that restored us somewhat, still a loss but well up for the festival over all.
Onto today and the racing gods have either granted us a gift or started playing up, do we need York, Newbury and Newmarket today? We have them all the same.
York
13:40 – A race full of unexposed two year olds, plenty of pointers for the future but ultimately out of the performances so far, I am quite sweet on BELLARENA LADY for Ed Dunlop with Buick onboard.
BELLARENA LADY 8s 1 point each day
14:10 – The fillies have proven quite profitable for us of late with the 1000 Guineas correctly selected and Snowfall doing the business for us at 14s on the opening day of the Dante festival.
CREATIVE FLAIR is the selection for Charlie Appleby, winner of the Dante yesterday. Expect Creative Flair to get out and be hard to pass. The well fancied Snow Lantern currently around evens favourite, looks a progressive type and is thought to be anything – however she will need to improve further from what we have seen so far.
CREATIVE FLAIR 7s 3 point each way
14:40 – The ground may prove to be an issue for Blue Cup the current market favourite, preferring the ground to be truly good and plenty firmer than today.
Irish Admiral has the pace and if able to step up further should be involved at the death.
UNITED FRONT at a big price, has been aimed at this distance for a good while and handled the all-weather very well over the winter and into Spring, with his form franked when beating Zabeel Champion. The price is all wrong.
UNITED FRONT 20s 1 point each way
Irish Admiral 5s 2.5 point each way
15:10 – Santiago should win, Sir Ron Priestley has performed well for us to date but I would in a match bet prefer Santiago all things being even and the pricing being what they are.
However, Spanish Mission for Andrew Balding campaigned over further for much of last season, showed impressive speed last time out over distance admittedly a while back but if he is able to replicate anything like that form today should be in the mix. A small bet to reflect the price.
SPANISH MISSION 9s 1 point each way
15:40 – A wide open race with many being hiked in the weights by the handicapper. The dart landed on two selections.
FORTAMOUR 8s 1.5 point each way
Soar Above 20s 1.5 point each way
16:15 – HEY MR is the selection, drawn preferably better than his market rival Tweet Tweet. Our selection has performed on good to soft and likes to hit the front and stay out, expect Roger Varian to get a winner today with him.
Nomadic Empire had his form franked by the win of Winter Power yesterday, hence is a selection as is Imperium Blue at the bottom of the market who beat our main selection last October over course and distance.
HEY MR 7/2 2.5 point each way
Nomadic Empire 16s 1 point each way
Imperium Blue 25s 0.5 point each way
16:15 – CURRENCY EXCHANGE is proven at the weight and has been upped in distance, running well at Nottingham in April. All the others are yet to prove it to a similar standard at their weights.
CURRENCY EXCHANGE 8s 2 point each way
Newmarket
14:15 – Master the Stars 6s – 2.5 point each way.
14:50 – A Star Above 4s – 2.5 point each way.
Newbury
14:25 – I would expect Concierge to out run his odds and is back to a weight where he has proven effective (his last run at Newmarket in mid April).
Concierge 12s – 1 point each way (be mindful only two places, if you don’t like the look of that selection do not bet).
Good luck and let us hope that ends a positive week and an enjoyable Dante Festival.
