Afternoon, Mercurial at 17/2 was a welcome winner for us, especially as we were pipped on the line in the race prior. A less than ideal week at Chester, draw biases remain ever prominent and Franny Norton continues to ride the course like a master.
Onto today and a quieter week next week, after the weekend, allowing me to review, update the P&L etc
13:45 – Gobi Sunset jocked up by the aforementioned Franny Norton, whilst drawn from 10 is an incredibly prominent type and has the right jockey to navigate him round the course, carrying less weight than when seen last time out, he has been prepared for today with runs on the all-weather this season showing he is in fine form.
Ejitilaab for the Ian Williams yard, carried more when last seen at Musselburgh and should look to be equally prominent.
Gobi Sunset 14/1 1pt ew
Ejitilaab 15/2 1.5PT ew
14:15 – Armory’s run at Leopardstown when last seen finishing fast and third behind Magical sets an extreme standards off 2 pounds heavier than today, my tissue would make him evens. Bangkok however is nigh on half a stone down from the weight he was carrying when performing to a high standard last year. If the O’Brien yard is having a rough patch and the fav does not oblige he is the obvious choice to pick up the spoils.
A race to watch due to the non-runner spoiling the price on offer on Bangkok.
14:45 – A wide open affair, Cardano, Future Investment and Who Dares Wins get the pins.
Cardano 15/2 1.5pt ew
Future Investment 15/2 1.5PT ew
Who Dares Wins 11/1 1pt ew
15:15- Ainsdale looks the best handicapped of all of these, the fav (El Astronaute) looks too high in the weights and is an awful price, Kings Lyn for the Queen trained by Andrew Balding (who spoke very well of him to Nick Luck earlier this week) he may well be the classiest horse in the race but has done everything so far carrying a lot less. The Burke yard however is hugely out of form hence no bet.
15:45 – Trais Fluros for the Mick Channon yard is the wrong price, his performances towards the back end of last year when carrying half a stone plus heavier would be enough today to trouble these.
Restorer, proven over course and distance, is the other selection.
Traps Fluros 9/1 1pt ew
Restorer 11/2 1.5PT ew
16:50 – Potenza should take the closer but not a single bet.
Multiple
F Norton treble – Gobi Sunset (145), Lunar Jet (345) Green Book (420) – 1259/1 0.5PT ew
Fav 4fold Armory (1415) Falcon Eight (245), Kings Lyn (315), Potenza (450) 125/1 1pt ew
