Thursday 6 May 2021

Yesterday started quite rosy, save as for a withdrawal in the opener at Chester which meant our ew bet became a win only, fortunately Navello won but with a heavy rule 4, however the manner of the win was such that it probably would have won anyway. Dubai Fountain then did the business and the day looked rosy, the rain began to fall however and some weird rides began to occur (Harmony Lil), Wirko blowing up 30 mins later sealed our fate.

Not an ideal day at all.

Onto day 2.

Chester

13:45 – Makanah has the opportunity to score today, performing well when last seen at Musselburgh for the Julie Camacho yard, drawn from stall 7 is less than ideal, however that is factored into the price and our stake.

Makanah 8/1 1pt ew

14:15 – Foxes Tales looked as if he was ready for a trip up when performing well towards the end of last season at Kempton and reappearing well at Newbury when scoring a few weeks back. He is carrying 5 pounds less than when he scored and a draw from stall 5 today should suit his style with SDS presenting him at the death. The AP O’Brien horse would be of interest if his form was not so poor at the minute.

Foxes Tales 11/2 2pt ew

15:15 – Trueshan for the Alan King yard was last seen when scoring victoriously at Ascot at Champions Day he is 7 pounds lighter today and if he has trained on yet further should be too much for all of these, Japan arrives here today, with plenty to prove, having struggled in the aforementioned race.

15:45 – Spirit Dancer 5/1 2pt ew

Sarvan 6/1 2pt ew

16:15 – Mercurial should not be the price he is, he has performed to a higher level (speed wise) than all of these when seen last time out at Bath. The fav might be a weak one here, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go odds-against currently 5/6 odds-on. The new David Loughnane horse at 66/1 is worth a small play in case he is anything and Hollie Doyle rarely rides 50/1 pokes so again is of interest at lower stakes.

If the fav romps home it is one of those but I cannot see how he is odds-on.

Mercurial 17/2 1pt ew

Grafonat 50/1 0.5pt ew

Forever Bright 66/1 0.5pt ew

16:45 – Alpine Stroll is too big a price with Set Point the most likely winner being the classiest horse from what we have seen in the race.

Apline Stroll 10/1 1pt ew

Set Point double with Trueshan (in 15:15) 7/1 4pt ew
