Sunday 2 May 2021

Good morning, a nice way to start the Flat season properly, with the 1-2 in the Guineas, what a race and a fantastic performance by POETIC FLARE, Jim Bolger and Kevin Manning. A great ding-doing all the way to the line with Master of the Seas, the Ballydoyle plots all blew up, none more so than Battleground who went off fav but who had a torrid time out there.

Another profitable Saturday with the big race landed.

Onto today, and the turn of the fillies and the 1000 Guineas.

Newmarket

13:15 – if Western Symphony handles the surface, having performed well at Lingfield carrying a stone higher, he should be difficult to beat, the Frankel colt, Francesco Gaurdi may not quite be quick enough if some of these are a bit more progressive. Fountain Cross is not out of it if handling the step-up in trip.

Western Symphony 3/1 2.5PT ew

13:50 – A good looking race, Grand Bazaar proven over C&D well drawn from 3, finished last season carrying heavier and producing figures comparative to the favourite, Global Storm a mount of William Buick for the in-form Appleby yard and the boys in blue.

If Grand Bazaar was able to repeat his form in September, last year at the course it would be enough to take this.

Grand Bazaar 4/1 2pt ew

Double with Western Symphony 19/1 1.5PT ew

15:00 – Martin Harley had a terrible A/W finals day and his ride on hot fav, Indie Angel was the worst of the bunch, odds-on at the off. Frankie is on board today and a big price means she is worth interest. Lady Bowthorpe is the main selection, on purely speed-figures alone she should have the best of these.

Lady Bowthorpe 11/2 2.5PT ew

Indie Angel 11/1 1pt ew

15:40 – The 1000 Guineas: We backed Alcohol Free before her prep-run at 14/1. The collapse of the Ballydoyle fancies in the 2000 Guineas has pushed Santa Barbara out slightly and someone has got stuck into Alcohol Free pushing her from 7s into 10/3 at the time of writing.

Mother Earth for O’Brien and Dettori stands out at a bigger price, drawn well from 2, expect Frankie to ride her up with the pace if she is to be most effective, she placed well behind Pretty Gorgeous when last seen at Newmarket last season.

We will not back Alcohol Free again but I would not put you off if you wanted to play towards the short end of the market.

We will supplement our bet on her with the following pair:

Mother Earth 11/1 1pt ew

Fev Rover 16/1 1pt ew a winner at Sandown last time out who should handle the trip up.

17:20 – Sayifyouwill has been seen 3 times this year on the A/W carrying heavier and if able to take to the ground today is primed for a big performance, seen on soft or heavy at the course last year and therefore unable to perform to his ability, with better ground today and drawn from 3, expect him up there and in the mix at the finish.

Sayifyouwill 15/2 1.5PT ew

Salisbury

15:45 – Rania is the wrong price, at the bottom of the weights and whilst not expected to do much today according to the market, she has set fractions that would otherwise concern these if all ran to form. The key is the value we are getting in the price, only two places makes it less attractive but the stake size reflects that.

Rania 16/1 0.75pt ew

Hamilton

14:40 – In a wide open affair, Morisco and The Trader look value.

Morisco 7/1 1.5PT ew

The Trader 12/1 1pt ew
