No racing of worth today, so we will break down the P&L.
What a rollercoaster it has been, after a fine start in January where everything looked rosy (at one point 50 points in profit), we began to struggle and as accepted over-stake, this led to us falling to on or around -25 points.
Early – February was a mess with late changes, horses not running to form and a generally things not going as desired, last Saturday however (6 March) with us having our second best day of the year turning thing around for us and putting us back in the black at 2 points profit.
Plenty to learn from these results and the whole purpose was to review and reflect, hence what have we learnt:
- Overstaking will destroy all your hard-work;
- The period post Christmas and say mid-January onwards is to be treated with caution, especially if the weather is problematic;
- Focus on the better racing, to date a very good Saturday-strike rate;
- The all-weather is to be reviewed and respected, plenty of profit on the AW so far this year.
- Be prepared for a poor run, review your methods and trust the process, tweak as required (overstaking on shorter horses hurt end of January).
- Avoid any bets above 2pt ew and think carefully before back anything below 5/1.

P&L per month
January – 13 points in profit (decline really started towards back-end from heights of 50 points)
February – 27 points loss
March – 14 points profit so far.…
As we move into Cheltenham we are alive and still breathing thankfully, let us hope we are truly in profit come the end of it.
