A fair enough day yesterday, a nice win by Dostal Phil, who confirmed my pre-race thoughts of performing well off a long-break and did just that to land at an average price of 17/2.
A couple of placed efforts by Miss Heritage and First Lord De Cuet kept it ticking over.
A few races tomorrow of interest, however as ever at this time of year, everything is weather permitting, let us hope Ascot and Haydock this weekend go ahead.
Ludlow
14:10 – Nothing of interest in what looks on paper a low-grade affair.
14:40 – WILDE SPIRIT is of interest, despite the Henry Daly yard not having much luck so far this season, however when combining with Richard Johnson he has a 50% plus strike rate over Hurdles. Robin Gold for Dan Skelton is the stand-out choice, last season on 2 January however carrying 11.12 he should be opposed.
WILDE SPIRIT 8/1 1PT EW
Lingfield (All-Weather)
14:00 – HIGHLAND DRESS is drawn incredibly well (in stall 4) for Archie Watson, Kieran Shoemark rides and he is a winner over course and distance, with two fine performances in November of last year.
Gulliver is seemingly the main threat, however, his draw will complicate matters due to his hold-up style,
HIGHLAND DRESS 7/2 pre-9am (will review market at 9am in case of a drift)
7/2 taken @ 9am 3PT EW
Wincanton
14:20 – Nothing of interest at present, the market seems about right, will re-review post 9am tomorrow morning.
15:20 – RIVER BRAY has good form over Course and Distance, 2 wins out of 3, winning last time out carrying the same weight 11.12, let us hope for a front running effort that cracks one of the two at the top of the market, Mack the Man & Rosie Millie.
Kloud Gate is a selection, due to Gary Moore being in fine form over the last 14 days with a nigh on 30% strike rate, whilst the horse has shown nothing in a while, he was in class 1 company not too long ago and placed at Ffos Las towards the end of 2020.
RIVER BRAY 13/2 1.5PT EW
KLOUD GATE 14/1 0.5PT EW
15:50 – Cyclop was a winner last week, beating our 150/1 selection, Young Turk, this looks a far harder affair and whilst he sits at the top of the market, we will go three-handed, favouring a front running style.
The price dictates are selections and let us hope that we can find the winner and a place!
Midnight Tune needs to prove that his last two efforts can be put behind him and we hope for a similar performance to his Warwick run where he won carrying the same weight in February of last year.
The Kings Writ, performs well at this time of the year, running well last year at Exeter and at Wincanton, he is no stranger to softer ground and should run well of a decent handicap mark.
Midnight Tune 9/1 1PT EW
The Kings Writ 10/1 1PT EW
UPDATE: 15:45 – ANOTHER VENTURE 28/1 0.5PT EW
The above taken post 9am (Midnight Tune was 10/1 pre 9am)
