A good day yesterday, fantastic racing all across the U.K we ended up for the day with some nice winners and some big prices placing. I will conduct a review later today ahead of Monday’s racing as I am strapped for time this morning.
Exeter goes ahead after an inspection.
Exeter has 3 races of interest above class 3 with nothing for us over at Southwell on the All-Weather.
Exeter
14:10 – TRANS EXPRESS is a former course and distance winner, running well at Exeter on Heavy (winning on 17 December 2020) and coming second in a decent enough Class 4 at the course on Soft towards the end of November.
He is the eldest in the line-up but at the bottom of the weights (10.7) and with speed figures that outstrip the others, with a 46% strike rate at the course, he loves it here, with the ground soft to heavy, it is all set-up for a big run.
Potters Venture is another of interest, last seen out winning in Chepstow in November 2019, Philip Hobbs has been known to nurse one back after a lengthy break and have them ready for their first run, hence again at 9/1 he is worth a play.
We are two known front-runners who like to lead from the front a tactic that proves successful at Exeter and in these conditions, let us hope we can give the favourite, Bear Ghylls something to worry about.
TRANS EXPRESS 9/1 1.5PT EW
POTTERS VENTURE 9/1 1PT EW
14:40 – Nothing of interest in what should be an open-race, Fracky Du Berlais looks the wrong price (11/2 seems big) but is not tempting enough to get involved, the favourite looks sound enough but the price is far too short in my opinion.
15:10 – BALLYCROSS for Nicky Henderson stands out at the prices, performing well on Soft at Ffos Las in November in a Hurdle race that we hope was a plan to keep his handicap mark down for today’s chase, having joined the Severn Barrows yard after that race, Nicky has a nigh on 30% strike rate with horses that switch to his stable, hence the price (20/1 for 3 places or 16/1 for 4 places) is top tempting to pass-up.
SANDY BOY trained by Philip Hobbs, has won over this distance before and was consistent in the winter of 2020 never quite doing enough to get his head in front but running well and placing, setting speeds that should give the majority of these difficulty if he runs to form.
We will take the 4 places today and the slightly lesser odds but still very much in our favour.
BALLYCROSS 16/1 0.5PT EW (paying 4 places)
SANDYBOY 11/1 0.5PT EW (paying 4 places).
Good luck.
